About
With more than my fair share of “interesting life experiences” – see examples below – and a love of being different, my own journey towards ADHD diagnosis came when my elder son was in the 2nd grade and his teacher asked if we had considered that he might have it. He didn’t meet the stereotype of “small boy bouncing off walls” so we were mystified; his approach to the world was very much like mine!
I’ve been very fortunate to always be surrounded by people who love, value and believe in me, so it had simply never occurred to me that anything might be “wrong” with me. In fact, I saw my unique take on the world as an advantage, and found many ways to share it.
Over the years, as I learned more, I came to understand ADHD as simply a different type of brain wiring, one that can have pretty wide-reaching effects but absolutely doesn’t need to be life limiting. The stigma of ADHD – frustration, disappointment and lack of understanding from family, friends, educators and employers – can be much more debilitating than the condition itself!
I realized that I had been successful by creating structure in my life and using systems (or people!) to mitigate the challenges of distractibility, forgetfulness, over-reaction, and the rest, while exploiting the positive elements of ADHD like passion, alternate perspective, and refusal to believe that anything was impossible. I’ve always been something of a catalyst for change, and done a lot of coaching, so training as an ADHD Coach seemed the next logical step.
As your ADHD Coach, I help you explore your ADHD and how it impacts your life, and enable you to determine what’s truly important to you. You will learn strategies that work with our brain type, and take steps towards goals you have set yourself. Take a look at these testimonials to get a sense of how effective coaching can be.
